'$74m higher education project on track'
AMMAN (JT) — A World Bank delegation, which concluded a visit to Jordan yesterday, was here to assess progress in a $74 million project to enhance higher education in the Kingdom.According to an informed source, the team determined the project phases were “going on track with no problems.”
The project, which effectively started last year, entails a $33 million component to supply public higher education institutions with computers.
It also includes the development of an inter-university library system and training programmes for university staff.
In addition, it will finance computers and networks for students and faculty.
The delegation held meetings with officials from the ministries of higher education and planning.
Meanwhile, Higher Education Ministry officials were scheduled to meet today to chart the action plan for the computerisation of the ministry work and data systems, the source said.
He said the ministry will build a computerised data system, instead of the existing one “which is all on paper.”
“The data system will help accelerate and improve the decision making process at the ministry, especially its executive arm, the Higher Education Council,” said the official. He said the new data system will include information on the number and specialisations of students, as well as the finances of the each university.
