Project provides
livelihood for unemployed women
AMMAN — In a bid to tackle unemployment and raise living standards, the
Jordanian Women's Union in Irbid is currently running a “Productive Kitchen”
training course.
The project, funded by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation,
provides trainees with specialised instruction in the art of making sweets,
pastries and chocolate.
“Our goal is to teach these women a skill to fight against unemployment, and to
improve their lives,” the union's director, Nariman Garaibeh, told The Jordan
Times.
The programme targets local unemployed women between the ages of 18 to 50, who
seek to improve their living standards by selling food items to local schools
and private customers.
The training courses began in July and will end in February 2006. Each course
involves a week of intensive training and consists of 10 trainees, said Garaibeh.
