Jordan chosen to host regional
technical centre on the development of microcredit finance
Under a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on Saturday by Planning Minister Bassem
Awadallah and director general of the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor, Elizabeth
Littlefield, Jordan has been chosen to host a regional pioneering technical centre that
would focus on the development of microcredit finance in the region. The MOU signed
between the two sides stipulate the establishment of a microcredit pioneering centre to
serve the Middle East and North Africa countries. Microfinance means the supply of loans,
savings and other financial services to the poor, including working capital loans,
savings, pensions and insurance guarantees as well as money transfer services.
