By Terez Haddad

ZARQA — The Hashemite University and Hillwood Company will next week sign an agreement for building an industrial estate on the campus of the university.

Around 1,500 dunums are allocated for launching this project.

The work will start within the first half of the year 2000 once a joint company is established allowing the university and the American company to attract foreign investments from the U.S. and Europe.

The university president Anwar Battiqi, said an application will be forwarded to concerned parties to consider the estate a qualifying industrial zone.

He said that this estate will provide 10,000 job opportunities to Jordanian citizens and that the university professors will play the role of experts to conduct research and give their proposals to improve and increase production.

Battiqi said about 300 companies are expected to launch investments in the estate which is slated to cost JD80 million.

The estate, according to Battiqi, is expected to be one of the biggest five industrial estates in the world.
