King, Cheney discuss reviving peace talks
WASHINGTON (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah
met yesterday with US Vice President Dick Cheney in Washington for talks on
international efforts to restart the Mideast peace process.
The King and Cheney also discussed developments in Iraq and bilateral ties
between the Kingdom and the US, particularly in economic fields.
His Majesty voiced appreciation for US support for the Kingdom, which, he said,
contributes to the implementation of its socio-economic and political
development programmes.
Also in Washington, the King met with Susan Mayer, dean of Chicago University's
Harris School of Public Policy Studies, and Raja Kamal, dean of resource
development at the school.
The King extended his appreciation for the university's decision to dedicate an
annual seat for excelling students in the name of King Abdullah.
The decision was taken by the university's board of trustees in recognition of
the King's distinguished leadership and his cultural views regarding the need to
establish good governance as the basis for sustainable socio-economic and
political development of civil societies in Jordan and the region.
The King also discussed with the deans ways to enhance academic cooperation
between Chicago University and educational institutions in the Kingdom.
An agreement to start a scholarship programme was reached at the meeting. Under
the programme two scholarships are to be offered for excelling Jordanian
students to join the academic programmes offered by the university.
