Queen, schoolchildren
honour memory of bomb attack victims
AMMAN (JT) — Marking the 40th day since the Amman bombings, Her Majesty Queen
Rania joined a group of schoolchildren on Monday to honour the memory of the
men, women and children killed in the attacks.
Accompanied by Their Royal Highnesses Princess Salma and Prince Hashem, the
Queen, together with children from several schools in Amman, planted trees in
memory of the victims, celebrating their life and the continuity of hope, giving
and peace.
The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) allocated an 11-dunum plot of land, which
will be developed into a park, to be known as the Amman Martyrs' Park.
During yesterday's event, Queen Rania was also briefed on GAM's future
organisational and structural plans for the park, which include a section for
flowers and trees, playgrounds for children and a commemorative area for the
victims of the attacks.
Since the Nov. 9 attacks, which ripped through the Radisson SAS, Grand Hyatt and
Days Inn hotels, Queen Rania has repeatedly expressed her solidarity with the
Jordanian people, taking pride in their courage and resilience in the face of
such vicious acts.
On several occasions, the Queen has also underlined the need to treat the
emotional and psychological traumas suffered by the victims, through counselling
and support, to help them deal with the unimaginable and sudden loss of loved
ones.
In the week following the attacks, Queen Rania launched a national system for
crisis intervention and psychological support for families and victims, an
initiative of the Jordan Society for the Prevention of Family Violence (JSPFV),
which was established in 1998. The society also launched a hotline, which will
provide psychological counselling for the victims' families.
