King, Assad discuss peace process

AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah and Syrian President Hafez Assad on Tuesday reviewed developments in the Mideast peace process in light of the resumption of talks between Syria and Israel. During a telephone call, King Abdullah stressed Jordan's support for Syria's efforts to reclaim its occupied land and achieve just peace in the region. The King expressed hope that the Syrian-Israeli negotiations would result in a peace deal that is expected to help create comprehensive and lasting peace, while at the same time reclaim Arab rights. On his part, Assad briefed the King on the results of the first round of Syrian-Israeli talks, held in Washington last week, emphasising that Damascus is “seriously” seeking for pushing the peace process forward and meet its objectives.
