'Temperatures to fall, rain expected Friday night'

AMMAN (J.T.) — A gradual drop in temperatures is expected for Wednesday and Thursday with the possibility of rain on Friday night, an official at the Department of Meteorology reported on Tuesday.

Although daytime temperatures in Amman yesterday reached an unseasonable 20ºC, meteorologists forecast a daytime high of 18ºC on Wednesday, dropping to 16ºC on Thursday and 15ºC on Friday. Nighttime temperatures could drop to 6ºC on Wednesday and decrease gradually to 0ºC on Friday, the department said.

In a statement to Al Dustour Arabic daily, the department's director general, Haitham Sha'er, said he expects rainfall this winter to be better than last year and reach 80 per cent of the annual average of precipitation.

He added that this year forecasts by world weather centres say the region should expect rainfall in January and February.

He said no snow is in the forecast for this year.
