assistance
By Shehab Makahleh
AMMAN A memorandum of understanding was signed on Tuesday between Jordan and Canada under which the Canadian government will contribute 1 million Canadian dollars (JD550,000) through a technical assistance project to support the Kingdom's efforts to build its institutional resources and capabilities.
The project, which is entitled Human Resources Development Information System aims to assist the Kingdom by upgrading and managing its labour market information system.
The project will also provide employers in Jordan and the Middle East region with access to information and data on available skilled labour in the country.
It emerged from another ongoing project between the Kingdom and Canada which addresses Jordan's endeavours to reform its technical and vocational education system to meet market needs.
To meet this end, the National Centre for Human Resources Development (NCHRD), the Ministry of Education, the National Information Centre and Human Resources Development Canada will work on the establishment of a basic data bank, the creation of a business data base, the building of analytical capacity within the HRDIS services, the development of counselling tools and the installation of an electronic labour exchange.
The memorandum was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Rima Khalaf and Canadian Ambassador to Jordan Michael Molloy.
