Khatib, Musa hold press conference in Cairo
CAIRO (Petra) — Foreign Minister Abdul llah Khatib announced that the Arab
foreign ministers, during extraordinary meeting at Arab League headquarters,
reached an accord on defining the objective and procedural issues that are
debated and need to be voted upon by the Arab League Council. In a joint press
conference with Arab League Secretary General Amr Musa, Khatib pointed out that
the ministers were briefed by Palestinian Foreign Minister Nasser Qudwah on the
situation in the Palestinian territories as well as preparations of the
Palestinian National Authority to hold elections on Jan. 25. “The ministers
affirmed the importance of promoting Palestinian unity due to its vital role in
achieving ambitions of the Palestinian people and establishing their independent
state,” Khatib added. He also said that the ministers discussed the political
situation in Iraq, noting that they expressed keenness for an Iraqi government
that strengthens Iraq's unity and achieves stability in the country.
