In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Prayers and salutations be upon Our Lord Mohammad
the Arab Hashemite faithful prophet

Dear Citizens,

Peace be upon you, God's mercy and blessings, It gives me utmost pleasure to address you today. To send to you an Arab Hashemite salutation replete with my affection and pride in you. You are the family, the comrades, the sincerest.. most loyal .. bearers of the noblest of aims. The most capable in confronting Challenges and difficulties and achievers of the greatest of goals. This occasion my brothers and sisters is an endeared one to me as it is to you.  For you have dedicated this day of every year to celebrate the accession to the Throne. The occasion bears many meanings and concepts nothing is dearer to my heart than seeing gaiety filling your hearts... with love, hope, satisfaction and confidence in the bright future.. God's willing.

Your choosing of this day as the Accession Day is perhaps, a wise pondering for tomorrow is the Arab Renaissance and Arab Army Day. I seize the opportunity to offer my greetings to members of our Arab Army and Armed Forces. They are the protectors of the Renaissance, its achievements and eternal message.  They are the contributors to the construction of our homeland and its developmental process. From its onset and to date, I realize that celebrating
this occasion is not but a confirmation of the pledge and bond between us, a pledge of honor between men and a pledge of loyalty to our beloved country Jordan and devotion to fulfill its message. It is a pledge that reminds each one of us of the responsibilities he carries for his homeland to proceed reminding himself of his own rights in his homeland.

My Dear Brothers

Over a year has lapsed since I have been honored with shouldering the responsibility. I have endeavored throughout this period to carry a total revision of all aspects of our national process and to specify the problems hindering this process. I also set up plans and programs
that would help us find solutions the those problems. Plans that would pave the road and create a suitable environment for a real developmental process thus reflecting a positive effect on the life of the citizen and enabling him to provide well for his family and securing a safe future for him. We have been able during this short period to achieve a lot of what we aimed for be it instigating new legislations or taking measures to create an attractive investment environment or in privatization or joining the world Trade Organization or in the outcome of the Consultative Economic Council meetings resulting in true partnership between the private
and public sectors and designing plans and programs that would improve our national economy and delve in the world of software and communications.

We were aware from the onset that the desired positive effects from all these measures and steps, will not reflect on our economy overnight and that sometime should lapse before the fruition of these efforts take place.  This does not mean that our present conditions are not assuring or that none has been achieved on the ground during the previous period. Our
conditions are, thank God, assuring and what we have achieved so far heralds a lot of good in the near future. On these bases, we believed that what we achieved in 1999 and what we will be achieving in 2000 is not but a preparation that paves the ground and lays the infrastructure for our launch in 2001 . Our launch will, God willing, secure a real leap in our economic and social situations.

Dear Citizens,

Our ambitions are substantial but their achieving demand working in one homogeneous team, having a clear vision, a comprehensive future perspective realizing this age's offerings, it's scientific and technological achievements and the preparedness to acknowledge the swift changing pace of these offerings.. constantly and promptly. In order to enable ourselves
realize the spirit of this age and it's challenges, we need to substantially review our policies plans..educational and training programs.. rehabilitate our human resources. In order to deal with the challenges facing this country, the outcome of the revolution of software and communication technology with confidence and capability to be in line and interact
with it. We have to realize, me dear brothers, that such substantial changes affecting all aspects of our lives cannot be done away from our democratic course. We should endeavor to establish democratic open horizons for it, protect it from all forms of abuse and harm effecting it under any pretence. We believe that deepening the awareness in democracy,
it's content, means, based on subjective dialogue, respect for different points of view and commitment to the spirit of the constitution are all the genuine guarantee of the ingenuity of the process, and achieving its noble aims. We also believe that the simplest portrayal of real citizenship and its expression is by everyone's participation in the parliamentary elections and practicing of his her right in choosing his there representative, whom he thinks shares in the future national vision. A representative who is qualified and capable of realizing national plans and programs stemming from that vision that would instigate the desired change. On
the other hand, when we think of considering administrative leadership in the public service, we have to base our choice on competence and assimilation of this comprehensive and future vision.

Dear Citizens,

My confidence in the future is great because it stems from my confidence in the creative Jordanian individual, the abilities and talents he has acquired, the science and knowledge he has armed himself with and his untiring will that shuns despair or fear of change. But these great ambitions cannot be achieved unless we rally our capabilities and work hand in hand in a homogeneous team.. a confident team, belonging to its homeland and nation. Our homeland needs our painstaking. Great achievements are rendered by peoples and groups, and not by individuals.. "the extent of might of the resolved..determines the resolution". I have decided
on this occasion to address you with these words, to assure you that the future is promising God's willing, and that our efforts will come to fruition next year and to say to every brother and sister in our extended Jordanian family many happy returns of the day May you and Jordan keep well. I reiterate my pride in you and my appreciation of your offerings.

God bless you and on the right path guide our steps peace be upon you, God's mercy and blessings.
