Greater Middle East Initiative

Jordan welcomes plans that are in line with the requirements of citizens, helping achieve the aspired development and democracy. Jordan has adopted and has been working for years on development, reform and democracy.

Jordan however believes that political and economic changes must come from within the region and be based on the “Arab and Islamic civilization and Islamic religion.”

Jordan also believes that achieving stability, peace and security in the region is necessary to create the right climate to achieving development and progress in the region in the economic, social and political fields. Therefore “efforts should concentrate on ending Israeli occupation of Arab territory and finding a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that will lead to the creation of a Palestinian state.”

US plans for reforms in the Middle East "must stem from the aspirations and will of the Arab peoples."
