A number of local and foreign non-governmental organizations operate in Jordan, mainly concerned with the promotion of political awareness and democracy. Several active women’s organizations and unions seek to rectify some laws affecting women that are a residue from traditional habits, and campaign actively on behalf of women candidates in elections. Several independent research centers are also active in the political field. They conduct surveys, opinion polls, and seminars on political and social matters in Jordan.
