U.S. - Jordan Bilateral Relations

The Jordanian-US Relation

Jordan values its friendship with Congress and is appreciative of the bipartisan support that the Kingdom has seen from Congress over the past several years, particularly the efforts of Congress and the administration to write off Jordan’s debt to the US and to increase assistance to the Kingdom.

Jordan understands and highly values the importance of Congress in the decision-making process in the US and maintains close relations with many of its members.

The US has sent through its support to Jordan a clear and unequivocal message that the US stands behind its friends who offer an example for moderation and liberalization. The Free Trade agreement between the US and Jordan is a monumental example of US support. US economic support has allowed for an acceleration of the economic reform and restructuring effort and has expedited the process of privatization and export orientation. Jordan is looking forward to expanding the scope of cooperation with the US in the political, economic, military and other fields. The United States topped the list of importers of Jordanian goods last year. Jordanian exports to the United States reached $229.4 million during the first quarter of 2004, rising about $90 million over last year's first quarter record. According to the figures released by the US-International Trade Commission, garments and textiles sector had the biggest share of exports, reaching $208.5 million or 90 per cent of all exports to the US.

Jordan’s bilateral relations with the United States are today at their best. Over the past several years this relationship has developed in both scope and in depth to the extent that it now constitutes a true partnership.
