An eight-member delegation representing the United States House of Representatives visited Jordan during the month of April.

The delegation, headed by Representative Jim Kolbe (R-AZ), is comprised of the following members: Representative Nita Lowey (D-NY), Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA), Representative Benjamin Cardin (D-MD), Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Representative Greg Ganske (R-IA), Representative Roger Wicker (D-MS), and Representative Anna Eshoo (D-CA).

Shortly after returning from the region, Rep. Kolbe expressed his strong support to Jordan. In a statement before one of the Appropriations Committees, Kolbe said “ I think the key thing we heard , again, from all sides here—Israel, Palestinians, Egypt, Jordan – was that the Jordan Free Trade Agreement needs to get passed as soon as possible. Now, I’ve been one of those who argued that we need to have some consensus on where we proceed with the other

elements of the administration’s trade agenda. But I have to admit, I come back from the Middle East perhaps with a slightly changed viewpoint, that the passage of this before the parliamentary elections in Jordan this fall may be absolutely critical for that regime. And without trying to suggest any danger to the regime, I just think it’s extraordinarily important for the King that we get this done.”

Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) also visited Jordan during the month of January. Senator Specter is the Chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, the Judiciary Committee and the Government Affairs Committee.
