September 13, 2002 My Dear Friend, A year after the forces of extremism, evil and terror assaulted the values and culture of democracy and the free world, and threatened world peace and stability, my people and I join the people of the United States, and the world, in remembering this tragedy and in vowing once again that we are all united in the fight against terrorism and evil, and in the preservation of liberty and freedom. My people join me in saluting the innocent victims of September 11, and the people of the U.S. for their courage and determination to uphold peace and civility and to defeat terror and anarchy. We reiterate our resolve today to reject all the claims of terror, in particular, those that sanction the slaughter of humanity in the name of the One God, the Merciful and the Compassionate. Islam can never sanction the killing of the innocent. In fact there could be no greater affront to the spirit of Islam than the terrorist attacks of September 11. Far from condoning terror and injustice, Islam is a religion of peace, forgiveness and acceptance, a faith that upholds and sanctifies human life. My people and I salute you Mr. President for your leadership and determination to put an end to terrorism and extremism throughout the world. We stand by you and your friendly people at this time of remembrance, and share your resolve in the pursuit of human freedom, progress and liberty. We pray that the victims rest in peace, and that God gives us all further success in building and preserving world peace. Yours always, Abdullah II The Honorable George W. Bush
