Jordan gate for Iraqi businessmen to the world, minister

Minister of Industry and Trade Sami Gammo said Jordan's economic and trade ties with Iraq have been steadily growing over the past years with a trade volume well over $2 billion.

In remarks at the opening of "the Kurdish Festival" delivered on his behalf by ministry secretary general Maha Ali, the minister said Iraqi capital in the Kingdom ranked fourth among Arab investment, expressing hope to further boost business in the future.

"Participation of the Jordanian economic sector in the economic development process in Iraqi Kurdistan reflects the government's keenness to forge closer cooperation with that region," Gammo added. (see story)

Delegation to discuss opening new markets for Jordanian produce in Iraq


A Jordanian delegation of agriculture stakeholders will visit Iraq next week to discuss the possibility of opening new markets for Jordanian fruits and vegetables in the eastern neighbour, according to a Ministry of Agriculture statement sent to The Jordan Times on Tuesday.

Members of the delegation, which will be headed by the ministry’s secretary general, Radi Tarawneh, will meet with Iraqi officials to discuss establishing a mechanism to export Jordanian produce to Iraq, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry has sent an official memorandum to the Syrian authorities requesting a special transit route for Jordanian agricultural products exported to Syria. (see story)
