Germany voices support for reform process

Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Sunday discussed bilateral ties and the latest developments in the region with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle.

Judeh said the talks touched on Jordan’s efforts to find a common ground for the resumption of direct talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis as well as the ongoing developments in Syria and international efforts to end the violence and bloodshed there.

“Our meeting was a follow up to our last meeting in Washington two weeks ago and is part of our ongoing coordination and consultation regarding issues of mutual concern,” he said. (see story)

Jordan attends conference on Palestinian refugees

Jordan joins Arab countries hosting Palestinian refugees at a conference in Cairo on Sunday that will tackle the financial conditions of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency UNRWA among other issues at the heart of the Middle East conflict.

Acting Director General of the Palestinian Affairs Department, Mahmoud Aqrabawi, heads Jordan's delegation to the gathering, which will be held at Arab League headquarters in the Egyptian capital.

On the conference's agenda is the level of UNRWA's education, health and social services to refugees in the host nations, settlements and Jewish immigration and Israel's policies in occupied Jerusalem that aims to evict Arabs from the city and obliterate its historical Arab and Islamic landmarks. Jordan says Israeli policies debilitate two-state solution

Cairo, Jan 29 (Petra) -- Jordan said on Sunday it totally rejects unilateral Israeli actions, including settlement expansion and judaisation of Jerusalem, which would empty the internationally-backed two-state solution of its content.

In a speech at a conference of Arab countries hosting Palestinian refugees held at Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Jordan's representative to the League said the Kingdom is deeply concerned about a cash-strapped UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency that offers education and health services to Palestinian refugees.

He said the deficit-strained UNRWA budgets in previous years had adverse consequences that prompted the agency to cut services in its areas of operations. (see story)
