"Facing the Real Challenges: Partnering for a Renaissance"


Jordan hosted the World Economic Forum on May 15-17 at the Dead Sea.

In remarks at the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos on January 23, 2004, His Majesty King Abdullah said,

“The Jordan Valley hosted the Forum's successful extraordinary annual meeting last June. And we are looking forward to welcoming all of you, again this year, when the Forum meets at the Dead Sea in May.”

“I invite you to join us to articulate our shared determination to bridge divides, build trust, and forge ahead with the new vision of peace, security, and prosperity.”

"The World Economic Forum in Jordan is all about - an inclusive, regional and global dialogue; a dialogue focused on results," remarked by HM King Abdullah during the opening of WEF.

His Majesty also encouraged his guests that it is "time for a fresh commitment to shared values - equality, human dignity, tolerance and freedom. It is time to reenergise our global partnership - a partnership of ideas and relationships that can help our region achieve its potential. " [full transcript]

The World Economic Forum in Jordan brought together business, political and other leaders to build a partnership for a regional renaissance.

The debates focused on four key areas:

  • Partnering for Regional Reform
  • Defining the Business Agenda
  • Transitioning Iraq - Iraq Revisited
  • The Global Agenda: Impact on the Region

Special focus given to the following industries:

  • Communications
  • Construction and Infrastructure
  • Energy
  • Finance
  • Food and Beverage
  • Travel and Tourism
