Political Development in Jordan

Government of Prime Minister Faisal Al Fayez

The Center for Strategic Studies (CSS) at the University of Jordan conducted an opinion poll concerning the new cabinet of Mr. Faisal Al Fayez in the period of the 2-8/11/2003.  The size of the national sample was 1317 respondents.


Political development:

  • When looking at the topic of applying justice, equality and equal opportunities, less than half of all citizens (43%) in this poll predict that the government will succeed in obtaining justice, equality and equal opportunities for all Jordanian citizens.
  • 50% of the citizens predict that the government will succeed in enforcing transparency. 61% predict that the government will be able to conduct the aspired judicial reform.
  • In the area of laws, approximately half of the citizens (49%) believe that the government will succeed in introducing the "advanced law for political parties".
  • More than half (56%) believes that the government will succeed in introducing new electoral system. The same percentage believes that the cabinet will succeed in strengthening the democratic process. 
  • Optimism increases even further in the percentage of people who believe that the government will be able to "activate the role of the youth in political and social development" (60%) and in "activating the role of women in political and social development" (66%). 
  • The percentage of optimism increases in the aspects that are connected to his majesty the king, as in matters of foreign policy (68%), and increasing foreign investment in the country (65%), and activating the role of the private sector in economic development (61%).
