Registration for
parliamentary elections opens next week
AMMAN (Petra) - Candidates who wish to run in the parliamentary elections can
register with the central elections committee in each governorate during the
first three days of next week, starting Sunday. According to the Ministry of
Interior elections media spokesperson, Saad Shehab, the committee has the right
to turn down any application if the candidate does not meet requirements.
Candidates can contest the committee’s decision at the Court of Instance within
three days from the date of the application. They also have the right to
withdraw from the elections, no later than 72 hours before voting starts, Shehab
said. Moreover, eligible voters can contest the committee’s decision to accept a
candidate within three days after the lists of candidates are displayed,
provided they are from the same electoral district as the candidate. The
elections are scheduled to be held on November 20.
