Iraq seeks Jordan’s help to
rebuild educational system
AMMAN (JT) - A top Iraqi official said on Thursday Iraq needs Jordan’s support
for rebuilding its educational facilities.
Voicing appreciation for the facilities the Kingdom is offering to around
750,000 Iraqi expatriates, especially in the health and education fields, Iraqi
Vice President Tareq Hashemi told Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit at a meeting that
Jordanian industrial sector has a key role in rebuilding Iraq, the Jordan News
Agency, Petra, reported.
Jordan has recently allowed all Iraqi school-age children to join public
schools, a move that received applause from concerned international agencies.
Bakhit, who discussed with the vice president various aspects of cooperation
between the two countries, reiterated Amman’s constant support for Iraq,
referring to His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives to extend all possible
support to alleviate the suffering of the Iraqis.
The premier renewed Jordan’s support to the ongoing political process in Iraq
and the need to involve all Iraqis to ensure its success and enhance Iraq’s
national unity.
In remarks to Petra, following the meeting, Hashemi expressed hope that trade
ties between Jordan and Iraq return to their past levels.
Jordan was the main conduit of goods bound for Iraq during the Iraq-Iran war in
the 1980s and the following decade.
