King Meets Palestinian President
Amman, Oct. 25 (Petra)—His Majesty King Abdullah
II discussed with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas efforts exerted to ensure
the success of the international peace meeting called for by US President George
Bush later this year.
The King and Abbas said it was important to discuss core issues of the
Palestinian-Israeli conflict in this meeting leading to the establishment of an
independent Palestinian state on the Palestinian lands.
They also underlined the need for proper preparation for this meeting and put
specific agenda for final status issues which include Jerusalem, borders and
refugees.
His Majesty expressed Jordan’s support to the Palestinian president as well as
his keenness to rally Arab and international support for the Palestinian
National Authority to ensure success of negotiations with Israel.
The King and the Palestinian president also discussed the outcome of the recent
tour of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to the region and her talks with
the Palestinian and Israeli officials.
President Abbas briefed His Majesty on his talks with Israeli Prime Minister
Ehud Olmert and on the outcome of his Asian tour.
He voiced Palestinians’ appreciation for His Majesty for the role played by
Jordan to support steadfastness of the Palestinian people.
