King meets Laura Bush
Amman, Oct. 25 (Petra) His Majesty King Abdullah II met Thursday US First Lady
Mrs. Laura Bush, who is visiting Jordan in the course of a Middle East tour to
further enhance US-Middle East Partnership for Health care particularly breast
cancer awareness and research.
King Abdullah appreciated Mrs. Bush’s leading role in various fields of health
care around the world. He also valued US assistance to health programs in Jordan
particularly aids to King Hussein Cancer Center. The Kingdom has benefited a lot
from this partnership with the US mainly with regard to awareness and research
about cancerous diseases, the King said.
During the meeting which was attended by HRH Faisal Ben Al Hussein, Director of
the King’s Office Bassem Awadallah and US Ambassador in Amman David Hale, King
Abdullah noted the importance of establishing a center for early detection of
breast cancer in Jordan, a project highly supported by Mrs. Bush. The success of
this initiative depends basically on the continued US support, he said.
King Abdullah and Mrs. Bush discussed Jordanian efforts to improve health
services and modernize the educational system in the country.
Mrs. Bush expressed appreciation to advanced level of health care and medical
services in the Kingdom particularly the great attention given to cancer
patients. She also affirmed her continued cooperation with Jordanian health
centers and medical institutions.
