Elections watch
Tafileh residents on Tuesday complained that candidates in the governorate had
posted campaign material on traffic signs on highways and side roads, saying
that some of the posters and banners covered signs at dangerous turns. They also
called on the Tafileh Municipality and the election committee in the governorate
to hold accountable those responsible for the violations and to remove the
posters.
The Housing and Public Works Department in Mafraq on Tuesday initiated a
campaign to remove the posters and banners of election candidates from traffic
signs across the governorate. The head of the department said 90 per cent of the
traffic signs in Mafraq are blocked with campaign banners.
Majed Ali Adwan, a candidate from Balqa Governorate, has withdrawn from the
race, according to Balqa Governor Sameh Majali.
The Ministry of Political Development, in cooperation with the Higher Council
for Youth and the Jordan Youth Forum, organised a campaign on Tuesday in the
Mafraq Youth Centre to encourage young people to take part in the upcoming
parliamentary elections. The campaign, which will be held today at the Hashemite
University in Zarqa Governorate, will also take place in other parts of the
Kingdom.
