Elections watch

Minister of Interior Eid Fayez, head of the parliamentary election higher committee, reviewed the ministry’s procedures for facilitating the work of the media with Government Spokesperson Nasser Judeh on Sunday. Fayez said the ministry has provided the Jordan Information Centre with 1,500 badges for journalists, authorising them to enter voting and sorting centres. The ministry also established a press centre at the Royal Cultural Centre, Fayez said.

The Public Security Department (PSD) press centre on Sunday launched an awareness campaign on the parliamentary election, which included a workshop for PSD public relations personnel on how to deal with the media and citizens as well as their duties and responsibilities during the polls.

PSD Spokesperson Major Basheer Daaja said the department will carry out mock drills during the week on ways to address emergencies during the polls. The south Amman police department will carry out a mock exercise in Jabal Nuzha on Tuesday, in the downtown area on Wednesday and on the airport road on Thursday.

Karak Governor Fawaz Ersheidat announced that two women candidates withdrew from the race in the First District reducing the total number of candidates in the district to 33.

Irbid Governor Ali Fayez announced that two candidates had pulled out from the governorate’s Third and Sixth districts. The number of candidates in the governorate now stands at 208 candidates, including 50 women.
