Parliament watch
Minister of Interior Eid Fayez on Thursday met with a delegation from the
Bahrain Institute for Political Development. The delegation is currently
visiting the Kingdom to become acquainted with the election process and
procedures taken to facilitate voting. During the meeting, the minister reviewed
all measures and preparation for the election.
Minister of Political Development Mohammad Oran on Thursday encouraged young
people to take part in the elections, stressing that they are leaders of the
future. The minister made the remarks at the launch of the “Sharek” campaign,
which aims to motivate the younger generation to vote. The campaign is organised
by the Ministry of Political Development, the Higher Council for Youth and the
Jordan Youth Forum. Oran said the campaign, which kicked off in Madaba on
Wednesday, has covered 11 governorates so far. He added that it will conclude on
Friday with a march to be attended by Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit along with
3,000 young people.
Seven candidates in Karak withdrew on Thursday, reducing to 94 the number of
candidates running in the governorate’s six electoral districts. The candidates
are Maddallah Ramadin, Mohammad Maaytah, Ahmad Dmour, Meshel Ziadin, Ezzat
Tarawneh, Ziad Matarneh and Eteiwi Rawashdeh.
Four candidates pulled out from the race on Thursday in Irbid. The candidates
are Farhan Qaraan, Alia Al Abdullah, Mahmoud Ersheidat and Abdul Karim Shraideh.
The number of candidates in Irbid’s nine electoral districts now stands at 199.
The press and media faculty at Yarmouk University on Thursday held a seminar on
the parliamentary elections to discuss the impact of tribalism on the electoral
process. The event also tackled the absence of political parties and the role of
women and youth in the polls.
