Royal committee tasked with
formulating proposals on developing education strategies
AMMAN (Petra) - His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday issued instructions for the
formation of a Royal consultative committee to provide entities overseeing the
educational process in the Kingdom with ideas, plans and suggestions to serve as
guidelines for developing domestic education strategies.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Nader Dahabi, the Monarch said the plans
and suggestions to be presented by the committee will focus on enhancing
intellectual development among students and teachers by upgrading and
computerising curricula, enhancing teaching methods, ensuring equal educational
opportunities and high quality education, as well as encouraging a culture of
creativity and excellence among students.
King Abdullah entrusted Philadelphia University President Marwan Kamal with
presiding over the committee, which comprises several experts and specialists in
the field of education.
In the letter, King Abdullah said the Jordanian education sector is
characterised by its ability to graduate excelling young people who have
contributed to the advancement of the Kingdom.
As the local education sector has developed and progressed, many Arab and
foreign countries are now seeking to benefit from the country’s expertise in the
field of education, King Abdullah added.
The Monarch said the Kingdom has realised several achievements over the past
years in the education field, especially in terms of upgrading educational
infrastructure, computerisation of schools, increasing enrolment rates in
kindergartens and decreasing illiteracy.
In light of global developments and changes in work and production methods, it
has become imperative to develop the intellectual and mental capacity of
students and enhance a culture of creativity and excellence among them, a task
primarily that of the public education sector, King Abdullah said.
He added that creating effective partnerships between the private sector and
local communities on one hand, and public educational institutions on the other,
is an essential step to support educational reform and upgrade programmes.
