Judeh Condemns
Israeli Measures to Build 300 settlement units in East Jerusalem
Amman, Dec. 6 (Petra)—Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications
expressed Jordan’s condemnation of the Israeli measures to build more than 300
new settlement units in Jabal Abu Ghneim in East Jerusalem.
The minister said that the Israeli measure totally contravenes international
legitimacy resolutions and international law that consider the West Bank
including East Jerusalem, as occupied lands.
These, measures, he said will increase tension and threaten efforts exerted to
start direct negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, build
confidence between them and push the peace process forward leading to the
establishment of a viable Palestinian state as well as just and permanent peace
in the region.
“Jordan which totally rejects the Israeli step, believes that Israel’s failure
to meet its obligations under the roadmap peace plan, and its continuation of
building settlements, are major obstacles to achieving genuine progress in the
peace process and building on the positive results of the recent Annapolis peace
meeting in the United States,” Judeh added.
Jordan, the minister said, urges Israel to immediately stop its settlement
activities which threaten the peace process and contravene understanding that
have been reached by the Palestinians and Israelis paving the way for the
Annapolis meeting.
