King Holds Talks with
Palestinian President
Amman, Dec. 13 (Petra) – His Majesty King Abdullah II discussed today with
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas the regional and international efforts to
support peace process.
Palestinians and Israelis had started yesterday negotiations according the
agreement reached at Annapolis peace meeting.
King Abdullah highlighted the international community’s support to guarantee the
success of talks between Palestinians and Israelis in the coming stage according
to a timetable leading to a political settlement before the end of 2008 and
establishing the independent Palestinian state.
His Majesty underlined the importance of seizing the opportunity provided by the
Annapolis meeting and for all parties to implement their commitments.
The two leaders said that the intention of Israel to build new main settlements
in Abu Ghneim Mountain in Eastern Jerusalem is a clear violation for peace
principles.
The two leaders also reviewed preparations to hold the international meeting for
donors to Palestinians, which is dedicated to support the Palestinian National
Authority PNA to rebuild its national institutions.
For his part, Abbas briefed King Abdullah on the results of the
Palestinian-Israeli meeting that took place yesterday.
He also hailed the restless efforts exerted by His Majesty the king to support
Palestinian people to restore their legitimate rights, hailing the speech
delivered by King Abdullah in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
