Monarch condemns Beirut,
Algiers terror attacks
His Majesty King Abdullah condemned on Wednesday a car bomb that killed
Brigadier General Francois Hajj, armed forces chief of military operations, and
several of his companions, in addition to innocent citizens. In a cable he sent
to Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora, the King described the Beirut attack as
“a cowardly act aimed to undermine efforts to realize national consensus” in
Lebanon.
King Abdullah stressed Jordan's solidarity with the Lebanese in standing up to
all attempts seeking to target Lebanon's unity and sovereignty.
Also yesterday, His Majesty telephoned Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika
and offered his condolences over terrorist bombings that targeted UN offices in
Algiers on Tuesday.
King Abdullah stressed Jordan's support for Algeria. The two leaders also
discussed developments in the region and mechanisms to enhance bilateral ties.
