Iraqi counterpart hold talks
Foreign Minister Salahdin Bashir and his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari, who
is visiting Jordan within a tour to Awab countries, on Wednesday held talks on a
number of issues of mutual concern as well as the latest developments at the
regional and international levels in addition to the upcoming meeting for Iraq’s
neighboring countries which will be held in Kuwait next April. Bashir affirmed
that Jordan is committed to the restoration of security in Iraq and it unity;
and it rejects all attempts that aim to provoke sectarianism, pointing to the
keenness for the success of the national reconciliation efforts which are based
on a comprehensive political process that brings all Iraqi parties together to
achieve justice. Bashir expressed Jordan’s concern about the current situation
in Iraq which will affect the stability in the region as Iraq is part of the
Arab and Islamic worlds. Regarding to Iraqis who are living in Jordan, Bashir
affirmed that Jordan continues providing them with the needed services and
facilities till they get back to their homeland where they will participate in
its rebuilding process, pointing at the great burden that Jordan shoulder for
hosting a large number of Iraqi people in light of the hard conditions that
Jordan is experiencing and of its limited resources. For his part, the Iraqi
Foreign Minister briefed Bashir on the latest developments in Iraq and on the
discussions that he had held with officials in Arab countries; expressing
appreciation of Iraq for the efforts that His Majesty King Abdullah II is
exerting to help Iraq overcome the current situation. The two sides stressed
keenness to strength consultations and communications for the coming phase to
boost bilateral relations for the interest of both nations.
