Bashir holds
talks with US special envoy
AMMAN (Petra) - Minister of Foreign Affairs Salah Bashir on Tuesday met with US
Special Envoy for Middle East Security General Jim Jones and reviewed current
developments in the Gaza Strip and efforts to push the peace process forward.
Bashir said the US and the international community should intensify efforts to
help the Palestinians and Israelis achieve tangible progress on the final status
negotiations and ensure that the two sides stand by their obligations. Bashir
warned that wasting the opportunity to establish an independent Palestinian
state would threaten the region’s security and stability. He added that there
was no way of launching real negotiations and achieving peace in light of the
continuous Israeli attacks on Palestinians. Jones briefed Bashir on US efforts
to achieve peace in the Middle East and commended His Majesty King Abdullah’s
efforts in support of the peace process.
