PM reviews bilateral ties with Kuwaiti parliamentarians

AMMAN (Petra) - Prime Minister Nader Dahabi on Tuesday said exchange visits between Jordanian and Kuwaiti parliamentary delegations will allow both countries to benefit from each other’s democratic experiences.

During a meeting with a Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation yesterday, the premier said the government is keen to make the Kingdom’s investment environment more attractive and is concerned with increasing the volume of Kuwaiti investments, which are the biggest in the Kingdom, totalling around $6 billion.

He added that the government, under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah, follows up on the situation of Kuwaiti students studying at local universities and is working on increasing the number of students.

The Kuwaiti delegates said their visit was a follow-up to Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al Mohammad Al Sabah’s visit to Amman last week.

They added that the volume of Kuwaiti investments in the country was due to the Kingdom’s stability and confidence in the government.

Kuwaiti lawmaker Jaber Mheilabi said the visit aims to boost political and socio-economic relations between the two sides, describing the meetings with Jordanian officials as “good and fruitful”.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rahim Okour also attended the meeting.

Also on Tuesday, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Suhair Al-Ali met with the Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation, headed by Marzouq Hbaini.

Al-Ali stressed the importance of enhancing Jordanian-Kuwaiti ties in various fields and praised Kuwaiti support for the Kingdom over the past years, which has financed the implementation of several projects and priority development initiatives in a number of vital sectors such as industry, mining, energy, water, infrastructure, health and education.

Jordan was among the first countries to receive development assistance from the Kuwaiti Fund for Economic Development, estimated at $441.7 million since 1962.

The minister also discussed the Kingdom’s economic and social challenges with the Kuwaiti delegates, and briefed them on its achievements and commitment to continue on the path of reform.
