Jordan, Senegal urge
effective Islamic action
AMMAN (JT) - His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday held talks with Senegalese
President Abdoulaye Wade on preparations Dakar is taking to hold the 11th summit
of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), scheduled for April.
Discussions also covered developments in the region and bilateral ties.
King Abdullah thanked Wade for the efforts of his country in hosting the summit,
stressing Jordan’s willingness to participate in the summit and help render it a
success.
The Monarch said the summit comes at the right time when the Muslim world is
facing major challenges that require integrated and agile Islamic action. The
OIC’s role should be activated to play a key role towards this end, the two
leaders agreed.
His Majesty said prospects of positive results from the summit hinge on the
member states’ ability to unify their positions on issues of common concern such
as advocating true Islam and communicating to the world the faith’s message of
moderation and tolerance.
Meanwhile, King Abdullah briefed Wade on efforts the Kingdom is exerting to help
the Palestinians and Israelis move on with negotiations to reach a just and
permanent settlement to Mideast conflict.
