King meets US for Energy Secretary and OPIC
Washington, March 3 (Petra)-- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday met with US Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman and discussed with him the bilateral cooperation in the field of energy. His Majesty the King affirmed the importance of developing alternative sources of energy for Jordan in the light of the sharp rise in oil prices and the lack of non-renewable energy sources in Jordan. King Abdullah stressed the need for Jordan to develop clean nuclear energy for peaceful purposes as many developed countries in Europe and the world do. Jordan seeks to develop alternative sources of renewable energy, like the sun and wind, in cooperation with a number of countries around the world to reduce the oil bill. It is noteworthy that the Jordanian and US energy ministers signed in Amman a memorandum of understanding for bilateral cooperation in the field of energy. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Nader Dahabi, Chief of the Royal Court Bassem Awadallah, and Jordanian Ambassador in Washington Prince Zaid Bin Ra’d. On the other, His Majesty King Abdullah II met with representatives of the Washington-based Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) which is interested in establishing investment projects in Jordan. His Majesty welcomed the conference that the OPIC indents to hold at the Dead Sea during this month, adding “It is important for announcing its projects that will serve the Jordanian economy.”
