King reviews bilateral ties
with Prince Meshal
AMMAN (Petra) - His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday said he highly values Saudi
Arabia's support for Jordan to help it implement economic and development
programmes.
King Abdullah made the remarks at a meeting with Saudi Prince Meshal Ben Abdul
Aziz, where they discussed means to enhance bilateral ties in various fields.
At the meeting, the Saudi prince conveyed Saudi King Abdullah’s greetings to the
Monarch.
The King stressed that there is continuous coordination and consultation with
Saudi Arabia to serve the issues of the Arab and Islamic Umma.
Also on Sunday, King Abdullah held a lunch banquet in honour of the visiting
Saudi prince, which was attended by HRH Prince Feisal, Prime Minister Nader
Dahabi, Royal Court Chief Bassem Awadallah and the King's Adviser for Tribal
Affairs Sharif Fawwaz Zeben Abdullah.
Yesterday, King Abdullah also received a delegation from the American
Association for Cancer Research (AACR), which is currently holding a four-day
conference at the Dead Sea.
Underlining the Kingdom's keenness to enhance cooperation between its medical
institutions and the association, the Monarch also highlighted the importance of
the cooperation between the association and King Hussein Cancer and
Biotechnology Institute.
He also thanked the association for its efforts in training local medical staff
and transferring its experience to the Kingdom’s medical institutions.
His Majesty also referred to the AACR International Conference entitled,
“Advances in Cancer Research: From the Laboratory to the Clinic”, which opened
at the King Hussein Ben Talal Convention Centre on Sunday.
Around 400 oncologists and researchers from over 38 countries are participating
in the conference, which is presenting the latest discoveries in tumour biology,
novel therapeutics, the genetic basis of cancer, cancer epidemiology and
prevention, and immunology, according to the AACR website.
Minister of Health Salah Mawajdeh, who inaugurated the event deputising for King
Abdullah, said the Kingdom seeks to develop its abilities in cancer treatment by
cooperating with international organisations in order to limit the disease in
the country and alleviate the suffering of cancer patients.
