Jordan reiterates commitment to Iraqi stability, unity
AMMAN (Petra) - Foreign Minister Salah Bashir on
Saturday reiterated Jordan's commitment to the stability and unity of Iraq.
At a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshiyar Zebari yesterday, Bashir said
the Kingdom supports all efforts seeking to restore security and stability in
the country and rejects attempts seeking to fuel sectarian divisions.
The minister also noted that Jordan is keen to render national reconciliation
efforts a success, in accordance with a comprehensive political process that
involves all Iraqis.
In addition, he voiced Jordan's concern about current developments in Iraq which
threaten regional stability.
Discussions between the two ministers also covered several bilateral issues and
developments at the regional and international levels.
At the meeting, Bashir said the Kingdom will continue to provide facilities to
all Iraqis residing in the country until they return home and contribute in
rebuilding the future of Iraq, despite the pressure placed on its infrastructure
and natural resources.
Bashir also stressed the importance of the role played by the Arab world in
supporting Iraq, its stability and sovereignty.
Zebari, for his part, briefed Bashir on developments in Iraq, voicing
appreciation for His Majesty King Abdullah's efforts to help Iraq overcome the
current crisis and for hosting a large number of Iraqis.
The two officials said they were keen to continue joint action to enhance
bilateral relations, as well as coordination on issues of common concern.
