Prime minister meets Iraqi
vice-president
Amman, May 28 (Petra)—Prime Minister Nader Dahabi said Jordan supports efforts
designed to achieve national reconciliation in Iraq and to get all Iraqi sects
involved in this process with a view to achieving security and ensure Iraq's
unity.
Dahabi told visiting Iraqi Vice-President Tareq Al Hashemi that Jordan backs
efforts to restore security and stability in Iraq and ensure Iraq's return to
the Arab fold.
The premier also voiced Jordan's rejection of any foreign interference in Iraq's
affairs, adding Iraq was important for Jordan's security and stability.
Jordan, he said, would stand beside Iraq and help it to overcome the current
difficult conditions facing it.
The prime minister said that he extended an invitation to his Iraqi counterpart
Nouri Al Maliki to visit Jordan, adding he was looking forward to this visit to
build on the historical and distinguished ties between the two countries and to
open new horizons for cooperation in the political, economic and trade fields.
On Iraqis residing in Jordan, Dahabi said that the government was providing all
facilities to Iraqis in the Kingdom under directives of His Majesty King
Abdullah II.
The Iraqi vice-president for his part highlighted the historical and
distinguished ties between Jordan and Iraq, adding Iraq was keen to further
boost its relations with Jordan, mainly in the political and economic fields.
On the political situation in Iraq, Al Hashemi said there was a consensus on the
need to end violence and gear efforts toward reconstructing the country, noting
Jordan would play an important role in the regard.
Al Hashemi said in a statement to reporters after the meeting that he discussed
with the prime minister trade and economic relations between Jordan and Iraq.
He expressed hope to activate agreements signed between the two countries as
well as the joint committees.
