Gov’t to examine,
follow up on HRW report on prisons - Judeh
The government and concerned parties will examine and follow up on a Human
Rights Watch (HRW) report to be released today on conditions in correctional and
rehabilitation centres in the Kingdom, Minister of State for Media Affairs and
Communications Nasser Judeh said on Tuesday. In a statement to journalists
following Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, Judeh said Prime Minister Nader Dahabi
instructed the concerned parties, especially the Public Security Department (PSD),
to conduct a comprehensive and objective study on the contents of the report and
to submit the results directly to him. He added that the PSD will today present
clear answers on the information and the remarks included in the report. Judeh
indicated that the government has been working on finding an effective mechanism
for submitting complaints and remarks on conditions at correctional facilities.
He stressed that Jordan is totally committed to safeguarding and fostering human
rights.
