New aid convoy heads for Gaza

King Hussein Bridge, Aug 17(Petra)- A new aid convoy crossed King Hussein Bridge on Monday en route to the Gaza Strip to ease suffering of the Palestinian people who are facing severe shortage of food and medicine caused by the Israeli unjust blockade.

The 20-truck convoy, dispatched by Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), is carrying 188 tons of various relief items including food supplies, kitchen items, blankets and bellows worth of $328000.

The aid supplies have specified and coordinated with the United Nations Works and Relief Agency (UNRWA), which will take the responsibility of distributing to the needy groups.

The aid was donated by a number of Jordan civil society organizations in coordination with the Armed Forces Crisis Management Center, Jordan Foreign Ministry and the Palestinian National Authority.

So far, Jordan has sent 317 aid convoys to the coastal enclave to meet the basic needs of the Gazans.

First Secretary of the Palestinian Embassy in Amman Bassam Hijjawi said sending humanitarian aids from Amman to Gaza is a clear illustration on Jordan's historical and firm stand under its Hashemite leadership in support of the Palestinian people.

Meanwhile, Jordan continues delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza provided by some Arab, Muslim and foreign countries //Petra// SF/MN .
