King calls for stepped-up international peace efforts
AMMAN (JT) –– His Majesty King Abdullah on
Tuesday called on the international community to intensify its efforts to bring
peace and stability to the Middle East.
During a meeting with members of the Jordanian-French Parliamentary Friendship
Committee in the French senate, the Monarch stressed the importance of
relaunching serious peace negotiations to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict
based on the two-state solution within a regional context and in line with
international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
King Abdullah also reviewed with the French lawmakers means to boost cooperation
between Jordan and France, particularly in the economic and parliamentary
fields, highlighting France’s support for development projects in Jordan
including water, communications and mining.
The meeting was attended by Senate President Zeid Rifai, Royal Court Chief
Nasser Lozi and King’s Adviser Ayman Safadi.
On Monday, the French delegation comprising Brigitte Bout, Jean-Pierre Michel
and Sylvie Desmarescaux met separately with Prime Minister Nader Dahabi, Rifai
and Lower House Speaker Abdul Hadi Majali and discussed means to foster
bilateral cooperation and the latest regional developments.
The delegates urged Israel to freeze settlement construction to achieve peace
and stability in the region.
