King Meets U.S. President's Middle East Peace Envoy
Amman, Nov. 3(Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah
II met here on Monday with U.S. President's Middle East Peace Envoy George
Mitchell, who briefed the King on the outcome of his regional tour to overcome
barriers came in front of relaunching peace talks between Palestinians and
Israelis.
King's urgent call to make use of the available opportunity in the wake of the
international consensus and the US commitment to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli
conflict within the frame of a regional and comprehensive solution of the
Arab-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, which is the only
way to regional peace.
His Majesty expressed appreciation on the US commitment the President Obama
showed regarding achievement of security and peace in the region, that could
achieve tangible progress reaching the two-state solution.
He also noted to the U.S. President Barack Obama's speech at the UN General
Assembly last September, in which he affirmed his country's commitment to work
for achieving peace in the region based on the two-state formula that guarantees
the establishment of a viable Palestinian state that lives side by side with
Israel in safety and security.
King Abdullah asked for an end to the Israeli unilateral acts that undermine
peace making efforts, at the foremost of which are the settlements and
procedures to Judaize Jerusalem and its holy places.
King Abdullah II has warned that the failure of the peace process between
Palestinian and Israel will increase the aggression of the extremists in the
region.
The King underscored the importance of supporting the Palestinian National
Authority and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to meet the Palestinian
national rights, mainly the right to establish an independent state.
Mitchell affirmed the U.S. commitment to achieve peace between Palestinians and
Israelis according to the two-state formula.
