By Christina Hawatmeh

Washington, DC - On November 16, 2009, in celebration of International Education Week, the U.S. Department of Education in collaboration with the VSA Arts launched an exhibition artwork by students with disabilities from more than fifteen countries including Jordan. The exhibit, “Windows: Looking out, Looking in” included a unique piece entitled “Goodbye” by Dina, a student from Amman.

The work from Jordanian students was part of the VSA arts international classroom exchange program-ArtLink- in which a classroom in Jordan participated. This program aims to promote international youth exchanges through visual art in more than 54 countries worldwide.

VSA Arts is an international nonprofit organization founded by Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith in 1974, to create a society where people with disabilities learn through, participate in, and enjoy the arts.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Student Art Exhibit Program, now in its sixth year, features visual art created by students in the United States and international schools.
