King urges Washington to keep
robust approach in Mideast
Amman, Jan. 24 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday urged the
United States to push for the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli peace talks to
arrived at the two-state solution.
The King also called for supporting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
King Abdullah spoke at a meeting with US Middle East envoy George Mitchell on
efforts underway to remove hurdles blocking the launch of peace negotiations.
He stressed the need for a more vigorous US effort to launch serious and
time-lined peace negotiations to achieve the two-state solution within a
comprehensive regional context.
The King also told Mitchell of the need for continued international support of
the Palestinian Authority and President Abbas.
Mitchell, who arrived in Amman as part of a fresh bid to persuade Israel and the
Palestinians to go back to the negotiating table, briefed the King on his talks
with Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The meeting was attended by Royal Court Chief Nasser Lozi, the King's Adviser
Ayman Safadi, and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, US Assistant Secretary of State
for Near Eastern Affairs, David Hale, and US Ambassador to Jordan Stephen
Beecroft.
