Judeh, EU’s Otte discuss Mideast
AMMAN (JT) - Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on
Thursday highlighted the importance of relaunching peace negotiations based on
the two-state solution in accordance with international resolutions and the 2002
Arab Peace Initiative.
During a meeting with the European Union’s special representative to the Middle
East peace process, Marc Otte, Judeh underlined the EU’s significant role in
boosting international efforts to bring about peace and stability in the region
and to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its
capital, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Otte commended His Majesty King Abdullah’s efforts to bring about peace in the
Middle East.
The EU special representative’s role is “to give presence, visibility and
political impetus in the region to the EU’s efforts to help bring about a final
settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict”, according to the EU Council’s
website.
Also yesterday, Judeh said the Kingdom’s foreign policy is based on establishing
relations with other countries on the basis of common interests and mutual
respect.
In a lecture, titled: “Jordanian Foreign Policy”, at the Royal Police Academy,
Judeh highlighted Jordan’s role in regional issues, particularly the Palestinian
cause, and its efforts to achieve a comprehensive peace in the region.
