Judeh, EU’s Otte discuss Mideast

AMMAN (JT) - Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Thursday highlighted the importance of relaunching peace negotiations based on the two-state solution in accordance with international resolutions and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.

During a meeting with the European Union’s special representative to the Middle East peace process, Marc Otte, Judeh underlined the EU’s significant role in boosting international efforts to bring about peace and stability in the region and to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Otte commended His Majesty King Abdullah’s efforts to bring about peace in the Middle East.

The EU special representative’s role is “to give presence, visibility and political impetus in the region to the EU’s efforts to help bring about a final settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict”, according to the EU Council’s website.

Also yesterday, Judeh said the Kingdom’s foreign policy is based on establishing relations with other countries on the basis of common interests and mutual respect.

In a lecture, titled: “Jordanian Foreign Policy”, at the Royal Police Academy, Judeh highlighted Jordan’s role in regional issues, particularly the Palestinian cause, and its efforts to achieve a comprehensive peace in the region.
