New company selected to
facilitate Iraqis’ visa applications
By Khalid Neimat
AMMAN - The Interior Ministry and the Jordan Express Tourist Transportation
Company (JETT) have signed an agreement to help Iraqis seeking to visit the
Kingdom with their visa applications, an official said on Thursday.
The agreement, signed this week by Interior Minister Nayef Qadi and JETT General
Director Malik Haddad, established a system to regulate the entry process in
response to a request from the Iraqi government to regulate the flow of Iraqi
citizens into Jordan, the official said.
The deal replaces another one signed in 2008 with the international courier TNT,
under which eligible Iraqi applicants used to apply at TNT offices in Iraq or
through Jordanian diplomatic missions abroad.
The deal includes a new fee schedule for JETT, but “the amount will be lower
than that TNT used to charge”, said an official source, who asked to remain
unnamed.
“Our contract with the ministry is open,” JETT Marketing Manager Hussein
Mowaswas told The Jordan Times yesterday, adding that JETT took over the
processing of visa applications immediately.
JETT has already assigned the Iraqi Public Company for Transporting Expatriates
to receive visa applications in Iraq, he said.
The Jordanian company will assign offices to serve different parts of Iraq later
on, he added, noting that the first office will open in Irbil.
Under the agreement, JETT will receive visa applications from Iraqis and forward
them to the Interior Ministry, the official source said.
The company will have a coordination office at the Interior Ministry in Amman to
facilitate the flow of applications and provide necessary support, Mowaswas
added.
