King stresses urgency of
peace efforts in talks with UK’s Brown
LONDON (Petra) –– His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday discussed with British
Prime Minister Gordon Brown efforts to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict
based on the two-state solution, which the King stressed is the only way to
bring about security and stability in the region.
The King and Brown discussed the latest developments in the peace process,
including the start of indirect talks between the Palestinians and Israelis, as
well as the next steps that should be taken to guarantee the needed progress is
made to end the conflict within a regional context to reach a comprehensive
peace in the Middle East.
During the meeting, attended by Prime Minister Samir Rifai, the Monarch stressed
the importance of more international efforts to overcome the obstacles that
hinder the peace process, warning against wasting time as the region and the
entire world will pay the price if peace efforts fail.
King Abdullah highlighted the importance of the British role in achieving peace
to establish an independent and viable state for Palestinians on their national
soil that lives side-by-side in peace with Israel.
Talks also covered bilateral relations and means to boost cooperation in
economic fields.
His Majesty also met with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and discussed
steps to be taken to guarantee tangible progress in the peace talks.
His Majesty will head to Russia today, where he will meet with President Dmitry
Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
During the meetings, the King will discuss with the Russian leaders developments
in the Middle East, especially efforts to attain peace and resolve the
Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Discussions will also cover means to enhance bilateral ties.
