King calls for halting
Israeli actions in Jerusalem
Amman, March 22 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday said that
Israel must stop its unilateral measures in the occupied Palestinian
territories, particularly its provocative acts against Jerusalem and its holy
sites.
During a meeting with U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace George Mitchell,
the King stressed that the US has a pivotal role to overcome obstacles hampering
peacemaking efforts and launch effective peace talks.
The King and Mitchell discussed steps needed to achieve concrete signs of
progress in peace talks and bring about the two-state solution that guarantees a
viable and independent Palestinian state that lives side by side in peace and
security with Israel.
The U.S. envoy briefed the King on the outcome of his talks with Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Royal Court Chief Nasser Lozi, King's Adviser Ayman Safadi, Foreign Minister
Nasser Judeh, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs
David Hale, and US Ambassador to Jordan Stephen Beecroft were present at the
meeting.
