Gov’t eager to
collaborate with legislature - PM
AMMAN (JT) - Prime Minister Samir Rifai on Tuesday said the government is
looking forward to working together with the legislative authority to overcome
the challenges facing the Kingdom and build on past achievements.
During a visit to Parliament and a meeting with Lower House Speaker Faisal
Fayez, Rifai underlined the “huge” responsibilities awaiting the government and
the Parliament in advancing the country’s reform and development process,
stressing the need for a genuine partnership between the two bodies.
For his part, Fayez said the House is committed to carrying out its duties as
outlined in the Constitution.
During another meeting yesterday with Senate President Taher Masri, Rifai noted
that His Majesty King Abdullah’s Speech from the Throne at the opening of the
16th Parliament’s first ordinary session represents a “roadmap” for all
authorities to move forward in the development and reform process in the
political, economic and social fields.
In the speech, King Abdullah underscored that a genuine and institutional
partnership between Parliament and the government is essential for moving
forward and for consolidating people’s trust in their public institutions.
The Monarch highlighted the importance of avoiding past mistakes, noting that in
order to do so, it is imperative that the two authorities agree on a binding set
of principles, consistent with the Constitution and laws, that defines the basis
on which the government will conduct its interaction with members of the House.
